Psychiatric Rehabilitation Specialist Training Program

Psychiatric Rehabilitation Specialist Training Program

The Rehabilitation Education and Research Program is recruiting students who are interested in obtaining their Master of Science degrees in Rehabilitation Counseling with an emphasis in Psychiatric Rehabilitation. We have been awarded a five year training grant to prepare 35 masters level professionals. Funding from the grant will be used to cover tuition and fees for 36 course credit hours, stipends to assist with school expenses, and student travel to attend a statewide conference. With 21.3% of Arkansans having a mental illness, and 6.9% with a serious mental illness, it is imperative that we prepare professionals with the knowledge, attitudes, and skills needed to provide quality rehabilitation services to individuals with psychiatric disabilities. Students in the training program will have a unique curricular program of study with special emphasis on recovery-oriented evidence-based practices. Consistent with the mission of recovery-oriented psychiatric rehabilitation, this training program is based on the principle that people with psychiatric disabilities should have broad-based life options available to them with opportunities for employment and independent living in keeping with their needs, preferences, and rights.
